Permanent Exhibits

Halifax County

The South Boston - Halifax County Museum is pleased to announce that the museum is producing a comprehensive exhibit about Halifax County. The exhibit will give citizens, their children and all other visitors a detailed experience about living and working in Halifax County for over 250 years.

All viewers of the exhibit will come away with an appreciation of the life lead by Halifax County residents in both the good and the bad times. Citizens will gain or reinforce their pride in their county. Children will learn a great deal about the life and times of their ancestors. Tourists, former residents and other visitors will learn to appreciate this Southside Virginia county of historic significance

The Exhibit is being produced in three phases:

Phase I - An Orientation to Halifax County in general, including:

A. A 400 Year Timeline of

• Virginia History
• Halifax County History

B. A Geological and Environmental Description of the County/Map/ Mineral Ore Sample Box

C. An Evolution of the County Borders (Halifax County as we know it evolved)

D. Significant Founders of the County

E. Demographic Information Regarding County,

• Population
• Size of Farms/Soil/etc.
• Possessions of Citizens
• Government

F. A Large Interactive Map of the County, allowing viewers to locate the areas and landmarks of Halifax County.

• Earliest established Church, Episcopal
• Arrival of the Baptist, Methodist and Presbyterian Churches
